Wrongly imprisoned inspector acquitted after 19 years

In Kashkadarya region, a former customs officer was acquitted after 19 years. This was reported by the press service of the Supreme Court.

According to the information, Khusniddin Choriev once worked as a senior inspector at a post under the Customs Department of Surkhandarya region. In 2006, a criminal case was initiated against him, in which he was accused of conspiring with several persons and hiding a very large amount of mandarins from customs control by not including them in the customs cargo declaration. It was also stated that as a result, customs payments due to the state were not paid, and Choriev, using his official position, caused significant damage to the interests of the state and society.

On the basis of these charges, on October 31, 2006, the Karshi City Criminal Court sentenced him. Later, on December 27, 2006, the appellate instance of the Kashkadarya Regional Court also upheld this decision. As a result, Choriev suffered from the consequences of an unjust sentence for nearly two decades.

However, after many years of complaints and repeated appeals, the case was reviewed again. On September 22 of this year, the Judicial Panel on Criminal Cases of the Kashkadarya Regional Court, in supervisory procedure, adopted a new decision. According to it, Khusniddin Choriev was fully acquitted, and the previous court verdicts against him were annulled.

Experts note that this case demonstrates the practical results of judicial and legal reforms in our country. For persons unjustly convicted, justice can be restored, even if belatedly.

At the same time, the public emphasizes the need to pay more attention to accuracy and impartiality in judicial and investigative processes so that such cases do not occur again in the future.
