Travel agency found for illegally sending 19.5 thousand people on Umrah

In Uzbekistan, an illegal travel agency operating under the name Jalolquduq Aviatrans was exposed for organizing Umrah trips without authorization. According to the Interior Ministry, as a result of this scheme, 19.5 thousand citizens were sent on Umrah illegally.
The investigation found that the organizers collected a total of $22.8 million from pilgrims. Tax and mandatory payment evasion exceeded 15.3 billion soums, while the damage to the state caused by the company’s actions was estimated at 1.8 billion soums.
Due to inadequate conditions in Saudi Arabia, 534 Uzbek citizens were left in a difficult situation — they were later brought back home on special flights.
A criminal case has been opened. The Interior Ministry reported that 13 people were detained and one more person was held accountable.
