Internet cut amid protests in Iran

In Iran, amid ongoing nationwide protests, the authorities imposed restrictions on internet and communication services. As a result, the country has been almost completely cut off from the outside world: phone calls are not going through, the operation of local news websites is limited, and some international flights have been cancelled.
The protests initially began against the backdrop of economic problems, including rising inflation and the devaluation of the national currency. Recently, in some regions, the protests have taken on a political character and have continued with anti-government slogans. According to reports, there have been casualties as a result of clashes in various cities.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a televised address, accused some participants in the unrest of serving the interests of foreign powers. Officials emphasize that strict measures will be taken against violations of public order and damage to state property.
Experts link the situation in the country to severe economic conditions, international sanctions, and external pressure in recent years. Amid internet restrictions, assessing the situation through independent sources has become difficult, although authorities state that control over the situation is being maintained.
