Health Ministry reminds that antibiotics are sold with an e-prescription

In Uzbekistan, false claims spread on social media saying that the requirement for mandatory electronic prescriptions for antibiotics would supposedly take effect only on January 15, 2026. The Ministry of Health denied this and stated that the current procedure has already been implemented.
According to the ministry, the system started operating on December 16, 2025. On that day, the minister’s Order No. 3725 came into force, banning the sale of antibiotics, systemic antibacterial medicines, and hormonal drugs with a regular paper prescription or without a prescription.
The agency noted that the transition period ended at the same time the document was registered with the Ministry of Justice. This means pharmacies must require a doctor’s digital prescription for these medicines, while medical institutions must issue prescriptions in the electronic database.
Therefore, if a pharmacist asks for an e-prescription to buy antibiotics, they are acting under the legal rules in force since December 2025. For customers, this means there is no need to wait for an “official start” in January: without registration in the information system, these medicines cannot be legally purchased from licensed pharmacies starting now.
