Counterfeit dollar trade uncovered in Tashkent and Karakalpakstan

It was reported that during оперативные operations carried out jointly by the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office and law enforcement agencies, several individuals were detained in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Tashkent for attempting to put counterfeit US dollars into circulation.

According to the information, during an оперативная operation organized in Tashkent’s Yunusabad district, citizens Sh.Y. and E.A. were caught with material evidence while selling counterfeit USD 9,900 to citizen A.B. for USD 5,000, intending to “convert” it into real money. The operation was conducted in cooperation with the Department’s Yunusabad district unit and other relevant agencies.

Also, in another оперативная operation held in the Turtkul district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, citizen A.X. was detained at the very moment he presented counterfeit USD 700 at a bank cashier desk for exchange. The fake currency was officially seized as material evidence.

It is noted that criminal cases have been opened under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code for both incidents, and investigative actions are currently ongoing.

Officials once again warned residents and entrepreneurs, reminding them that unknowingly accepting counterfeit currency valuables and then putting them into circulation may also lead to criminal liability.

Therefore, it was recommended to conduct mutual settlements within Uzbekistan in the national currency, which is the legal means of payment. In short, “cheap dollars” often turn out to be a cheap joke—bringing trouble not to your pocket, but to your head.
