In Uzbekistan, under-five child mortality has dropped sharply since 1991: back then there were 48.2 cases per 1,000 live births, while today the figure has fallen to 12.5. The Family and Gender Research Institute reported this.

Over the same period, infant mortality also declined—from 35.5 cases in 1991 to nine per 1,000 births today.

Significant positive changes were also recorded in maternal mortality, which fell by 4.4 times. It now stands at 14.8 cases per 100,000 live births, compared with 65.3 in 1991.

Experts attribute these results to healthcare reforms, including the expansion of preventive care and the introduction of updated approaches in polyclinics. Disease-prevention measures help children stay healthy and also reduce families’ treatment costs.
