At the start, both teams opted for cautious football: control in midfield and positional attacks took priority. Cagliari tried to use the wings more often, but lacked sharpness in the final phase. Despite enjoying more possession, Milan were not particularly effective at turning attacks into shots. The most dangerous chances mainly came from set pieces, and the score remained level until the break.
In the second half, the visitors increased the tempo, and the key moment came in the 51st minute. Fofana started the move, Rabiot played a pass into the box, and Leao finished with a precise shot into the near corner.
After conceding, Cagliari had to push forward: the hosts tried to apply pressure through aerial balls, crosses and set pieces. The Rossoneri preserved their advantage with disciplined defending and control of the game’s tempo. In the end, Milan held on, while Cagliari goalkeeper Caprile denied dangerous late efforts from Pulisic and Fullkrug.
