Stuart Russell, a prominent artificial intelligence researcher, has provided testimony in the lawsuit filed by Elon Musk against OpenAI. A professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, he was called to court to explain the dangerous aspects of the technology. This was reported by Techcrunch.com xabar.

Musk's attorneys argue that OpenAI was originally established as a non-profit organization focused on safety. They contend that the company subsequently deviated from its original path in pursuit of profit.

To support this, past correspondence between the founders is being presented as evidence.

Russell told the jury that the development of artificial intelligence poses problems ranging from cybersecurity to general risks for humanity. He emphasized that the race among major laboratories to be the first to create artificial intelligence is causing safety measures to be sidelined.

In March 2023, Russell signed an open letter calling for a six-month pause on artificial intelligence research. Interestingly, Elon Musk also signed the letter, even as he was simultaneously launching his own commercial laboratory, xAI.

OpenAI's attorneys challenged Russell's testimony, noting that he had not directly evaluated the company's internal structure or safety policies. The court is now expected to review the arguments from both sides and reach a final decision regarding the conflict between commercial interests and safety.
