Musk admits in court to using OpenAI technologies for xAI's Grok neural network

Elon Musk has admitted in a California federal court that his company, xAI, partially utilized methods to distill competitor models. This was reported by Ixbt.com xabar.

This fact was confirmed during court proceedings regarding Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, its CEO Sam Altman, and Greg Brockman. Musk argued that training new models by sending systematic queries to existing advanced artificial intelligence systems is a generally accepted practice in the industry.

Currently, major companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are actively fighting against the use of their models by third parties for this purpose. The primary concern is that other developers could create neural networks that match market leaders at a lower cost.

During the court session, Musk also released a ranking of leaders in the field of artificial intelligence. He placed Anthropic in first place, followed by OpenAI, Google, and Chinese open-source projects.

He described his own company, xAI, which was founded in 2023, as a smaller participant.

OpenAI representatives have not yet provided an official comment regarding Musk's admission. Meanwhile, leading laboratories have begun developing mechanisms to restrict suspicious mass queries aimed at copying their systems.
