Uzbekistan’s Green Economy Strategy Discussed
Members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have submitted inquiries to ministers to obtain detailed information on the implementation of Uzbekistan’s green economy transition strategy through 2030. At the parliamentary session, it was noted that reforms in the energy sector have resulted in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 6.3 million tons.

A portion of this reduction (approximately 500,000 tons) has been sold on the international carbon market, generating $7.5 million in grant funds for the country. Additionally, the energy conservation measures have saved 6.3 million kWh of electricity, 82,000 cubic meters of water, and more than 1,050 tons of raw materials.

Modern air and gas filtration systems have been installed in 140 large industrial and cement factories. During the spring and autumn of 2024, "green belts" were established around industrial zones, resulting in the planting of a total of 11.8 million trees and shrubs.

Furthermore, 7,000 hectares of unused land from the state forest fund have been reclaimed to increase the country’s level of forestation. At the same time, lawmakers emphasized that there are still unresolved environmental issues that need attention, including air pollution, waste recycling, ecological control, and the introduction of energy-saving technologies, which require a systematic approach.

These concerns have frequently been raised by citizens during meetings with deputies. Ministers are now required to explain how enterprises are evaluating environmental pollution caused by emissions, reducing harmful discharges, implementing "green certificate" ecological certification, defining technological processes, and supporting small businesses in transitioning to environmental standards.
