"Prison is not a resort": Japarov recalled his years in prison

The Kyrgyz leader responded with personal experience to those who complained about the conditions in detention centers.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov responded to complaints about the conditions in pre-trial detention centers, emphasizing that behind bars is "not a resort." This was reported by Tengrinews.kz.

The head of state recalled that he had been detained twice during his political career:

"I myself spent a total of four and a half years in pre-trial detention: the first time nine months, and the second time three and a half years. Have I ever complained? No! "Because I understood that this is a pre-trial detention center, and I endured everything," Japarov said.

According to the president, major reforms have been implemented in the country's penal system today. Previously, corruption flourished in prisons, but now the situation has radically changed:

- Prisoners are provided with free hot meals three times a day;

- Special clothing (uniform) is provided in accordance with the season;

- Convicts are employed and have the opportunity to send their earnings to their families.

The main criminal case against Sadyr Japarov was initiated in connection with the 2013 Issyk-Kul events. He was released during the 2020 popular uprisings and was elected President of the country in 2021.
