Power Outages Possible Due to Repairs at Sirdaryo Thermal Power Plant

Potential Power Outages Linked to Repairs at Sirdaryo TPP
Short-term power outages may occur in certain regions of Uzbekistan. According to the Ministry of Energy, this is due to the replacement of a faulty rotor at the Sirdaryo Thermal Power Plant (TPP) and a decrease in production capacity at solar power plants.

Power outages are primarily expected between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. If needed, consumers will be notified in advance.

The ministry emphasized that these measures aim to ensure the stability and safety of energy supplies. A new rotor, manufactured in Japan, with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, is planned to be installed at the Sirdaryo TPP.

The installation process for the equipment is expected to take approximately one month. To compensate for the lost capacity, backup resources and newly commissioned energy units will be engaged.

The Sirdaryo TPP was built in 1972 in the city of Shirin. The plant’s total capacity exceeds 3,200 megawatts.

Between 2018 and 2021, six energy units at the plant were modernized, with the capacity of each unit increased to 325 megawatts.
