The World Bank allocates $250 million for Uzbekistan's infrastructure

The World Bank has approved a $250 million financing package for Uzbekistan. This funding will be directed towards modernizing infrastructure and services in 16 districts and cities across the country.

The program is expected to improve the quality of life for approximately 1 million people. The project is being implemented under the “Livable and Productive Cities Program” (LPCP) and aims to support urban development amid rapid population growth.

Currently, more than half of Uzbekistan’s population resides in urban areas, and this figure is projected to exceed 60 percent by 2050. The financing will be allocated for the modernization of roads, drinking water and sewage systems, public transportation, parks, and other public spaces, as well as social infrastructure, including schools, kindergartens, and medical facilities.

The program will cover 13 regions, including the cities of Yangiyul and Margilan, as well as 14 districts across the country. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in collaboration with local government bodies.

By 2030, the program plans to improve access to transportation systems for 300,000 people, create new parks and public spaces for 400,000 people, and provide 10,000 temporary construction jobs. More than half of the beneficiaries are expected to be women.
