A solution to the water problem in Kashkadarya has been found through artificial glaciers

A modern solution aimed at reducing water shortages has been introduced in the Sarchashma mahalla of the Shakhrisabz district of the Kashkadarya region. Artificial ice facilities have been built here using innovative technologies.

According to the information service of the district khokimiyat, the project provides for the accumulation of water in the form of ice in the cold season, its gradual melting in the spring and summer months, as well as irrigation for household needs.

Artificial glaciers were financed within the framework of the project "Assessment of the impact of food systems on land use and land reclamation in Uzbekistan," implemented jointly with the FAO Representative Office in Uzbekistan, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Currently, four artificial ice pillars have been built in the Sarchashma neighborhood, each of which has the capacity to collect up to 450 cubic meters of water during the winter season. This serves to preserve water reserves until spring and summer.

This technology does not require additional energy, is environmentally safe, and is suitable for local natural conditions. In the future, it is planned to introduce this experience in other mountainous regions of the country.
