The United Arab Emirates has decided to implement an important innovation in the education system starting from the new academic year. For the first time, artificial intelligence (AI) will be introduced as a subject into the curriculum of the country's schools. This was reported by Khaleej Times, one of the leading publications in the country.
According to the government's confirmation, the new subject will be taught at all stages of public educational institutions, from kindergarten through grade 12. Explaining the significance of this innovation, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum particularly emphasized that this decision is necessary for preparing the younger generation to meet the demands of the new era and achieve future success.
“We must prepare children for a new world from today. Acquiring knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence is not just an opportunity, but an essential requirement of our times for our youth,” stated the UAE Prime Minister.
According to Education Minister Sarah Bint Yousef Al Amiri, within the framework of the new subject, students will gain practical skills in the basics of artificial intelligence, data analysis and algorithm creation, as well as software development. Additionally, the ethics of AI, its impact on society, and future prospects will be covered.
Students will also learn about the role of artificial intelligence in social life, methods of implementing innovative projects, and addressing problems associated with the widespread application of AI. Moreover, young people will have opportunities to test their knowledge through practical projects.
“Our main goal is to deepen young people's understanding of artificial intelligence, while simultaneously raising their awareness about its potential opportunities and risks. We must prepare the new generation for conditions fundamentally different from ours,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
By introducing this new subject, the UAE government is implementing a strategy oriented toward digital technologies, aimed at further developing the economy and reducing dependence on petroleum products. The country aims to become a global center for artificial intelligence and digital technologies in the future.
The UAE government continues to create the necessary conditions for future technologies and implement fundamental changes in the education sector. The introduction of artificial intelligence into the school curriculum is a bold step precisely in this direction.
