Terrible incident in Turkey: teacher killed by her student

On March 2, a tragic incident occurred at the Borsa Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Istanbul. A 17-year-old student, F.S.B., carried out a knife attack and killed biology teacher Fatima Nur Celik. As a result of the attack, another teacher and one student were injured.
According to reports, the suspect had been released from a psychiatric hospital two days before the incident. He checked the school schedule and determined in advance where Fatima Nur would be. On the day of the incident, he entered the classroom and first attacked the teacher, then those who tried to stop him.
It is noteworthy that the deceased teacher had previously raised concerns about this student at a disciplinary committee meeting, warning that “our lives are in danger.”
After the incident, classes at the school were suspended for one day and security measures were strengthened. Teachers in all 81 provinces of Turkey held a one-day strike under the slogan “We do not want to die at school.”

Turkey’s Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly condemned the incident and stated that those responsible would not go unpunished. The deceased teacher Fatima Nur was taken to her hometown Konya for burial.
This incident showed that psychological pressure among young people, social tension and safety issues in schools in Turkey require even more serious attention.
