Gunvor may acquire Lukoil's assets in Central Asia

Thorborn Tyornkvist, a Swiss oil businessman and founder of Gunwor, could acquire Lukoil's international assets. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

If Washington and London ratify this agreement, Gunwor will take control of a network of gas stations from the Bronx to Sicily, oil refineries across Europe, as well as oil fields in the Middle East and Central Asia. The deal's value could reach up to $20 billion, which is considered an important turning point in global oil trade.

Also, this agreement will be beneficial for Russia, as it will help solve the problem of blocked assets abroad. According to The Wall Street Journal, the negotiations proceeded very quickly - the deal was signed three days after Lukoil decided to sell its assets.

At the same time, the possibility of repurchasing assets for the Russian company is not provided for. According to experts, this acquisition will strengthen Gunwor's position in the global energy market and demonstrate how US sanctions policy is changing the hidden sector of oil trade.

Lukoil also has assets in Uzbekistan, and the company's largest project in the country is the Kandym Gas Processing Complex. The complex is capable of processing 8.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
