Telegram is sending verification codes via WhatsApp


The Telegram messenger has started sending verification codes to users in Russia via WhatsApp. This was reported by the publication Durov Kode.

The new feature has been introduced as an alternative solution in certain regions of Russia where SMS-based authorization is not working reliably. Telegram is using a WhatsApp account called CodeVerify to send verification codes.

The message contains a six-digit verification code and the following warning: “Your verification code. For security purposes, do not share it with others.”
