In the 12th round of the English Premier League, Newcastle defeated Manchester City 2-1 on their home ground. Uzbek defender Abduqodir Husonov, included in the visitors' squad, did not feature in the match.
From the very start, both teams played with high intensity and aggressive football. Newcastle focused on quick attacks, particularly through Barnes and Almiron.
City, on the other hand, maintained ball possession and orchestrated attacks from the flanks. Initially, the home side created several genuine scoring opportunities.
Barnes drove a shot toward the right corner, but it was saved by Donnarumma. Later, Almiron's cross was headed into the goal by Murphy, but City's goalkeeper once again came to the rescue.
The visitors responded midway through the first half. Haaland received the ball and took a long-range shot, but it went far off Newcastle's goalpost.
In the second half, Newcastle focused more on positional attacks, breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute when Barnes fired a powerful low shot into the bottom corner. City quickly equalized three minutes later.
A pass from Silva reached Ruben Dias, whose deflected shot found its way into the net. In the 70th minute, Barnes scored again, capitalizing on a rebound from the goalkeeper for his brace.
VAR reviewed the situation but ruled no offside. Towards the end, City launched dangerous attacks, but Newcastle's defense, especially goalkeeper Pope, successfully dealt with all threats.
Abduqodir Husonov spent the entire match on the bench. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
