New war threat between Israel and Hamas as ceasefire falters

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) sources, Israel is considering launching a new war in the Gaza Strip because the Palestinian Hamas group is not complying with the terms of the 2025 ceasefire agreement. Citing Israeli and Arab officials, the report says that in talks attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, Hamas fighters were required to hand over all their weapons. However, the group agreed to surrender only heavy weapons and refused to give up 60,000 small arms.
This situation has helped Hamas strengthen its solid financial position and ensure regular payments to members. They are also trying to rebuild damaged infrastructure. Experts say that if Hamas does not surrender its weapons, Israel may try to enforce this by force.
Israel and Hamas signed the first phase of a peace deal on the night of October 9. Trump wants to determine before Christmas (December 25) whether the Gaza peace process will move to the second phase. Under it, in the second phase Israel will withdraw troops from most of Gaza, international stabilization forces should be deployed, and a new administrative structure should be created. The process will be led by a “Peace Council” made up of seven thousand leaders from Arab and Western countries.
