Trump’s Impact on Venezuela and Greenland: Canada’s Concern

According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration’s growing involvement in Venezuela and its increasing appetite for Greenland are disrupting Canada’s peace day by day. After remarks about kidnapping Maduro and “taking over” Greenland, Canada has been alarmed by the possibility that Washington could use force against its northern neighbor.
Analysts note that the likelihood of a military invasion is quite low, yet Canada’s vulnerabilities are becoming more visible. The country’s vast territory and its economy’s dependence on the United States pose major challenges to its overall security. A state with extremely weak armed forces must ensure protection not only from external threats but also from internal risks.
It is also hard to deny that the USMCA trade deal, which poses a very serious risk to Canada’s economy, as well as separatist sentiment in Alberta, could be leveraged by the U.S. to stir tensions. There are concerns that disinformation and paid campaigns could be used to manipulate Canadian society.
These issues deepen Canada’s exposure to U.S. influence while also highlighting the question of what measures are needed to counter new political and economic threats.
