The Japanese government plans to hold its first-ever summit with Central Asian states in mid-December this year, according to NHK television.
Previously, the event was scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan during the summer of 2024. However, due to the high risk of a major earthquake in Japan, the summit was canceled.
At that time, Japan's Prime Minister was Fumio Kishida. During the summer of this year, it was announced in Tokyo that preparations were underway to support a trade corridor between Central Asia and Europe.
Additionally, reports emerged about Japan's interest in decarbonizing the region and its plans to attract investors to support Central Asian countries. The current Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, hopes the summit will strengthen ties with Central Asian nations, enhance economic security, and provide opportunities for cooperation in various fields.
As of early November 2025, Japan ranked 20th among Uzbekistan's trade partners. The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $326.8 million.
