Experts from Digital Foundry have presented a ranking of the games with the most advanced graphics of the year. According to the DTF portal, as per tradition, the analysts highlighted three clear leaders, while the remaining nominees were listed in an unordered ranking from 4th to 10th place.
DOOM: The Dark Ages was recognized as the most visually impressive game of the year. Digital Foundry experts particularly noted the highly efficient implementation of ray tracing technology for global lighting in this shooter game. Interestingly, this technology runs stably even on the relatively less powerful Xbox Series S platform.
The game adapts effectively to varying systems and configurations. On high-performance PCs and modern consoles, advanced ray tracing capabilities are fully realized. Specialists praised the realistic interactions with the environment, objects, and enemies, emphasizing that these effects perform without a significant drop in FPS.
The second place went to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Analysts described it as the most visually captivating game of the series since Assassin’s Creed Unity. Elements such as ray tracing for global lighting, environmental destruction, wind simulation, and interactions with vegetation have elevated the game’s graphics to new heights.
According to Digital Foundry, the best experience can be achieved on powerful PCs, PS5, especially the PS5 Pro version, and Xbox Series X.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach secured the third position. Experts highlighted the game’s meticulous attention to detail — from small objects to vast locations. The lighting system, even without ray tracing, is capable of creating a cinematic atmosphere.
Complex particle rendering and the overall visual style were rated as near the peak capabilities of the PS5 platform.
Games ranked from 4th to 10th place were presented without a specific order. Titles on this list include Silent Hill f, Routine, Metroid Prime 4, Mafia: The Old Country, Ghost of Yōtei, Earthion, and Dying Light: The Beast.
This ranking showcases that 2025 set exceptionally high standards for graphical quality in the gaming industry, with technologies now heralding a new era not only in gameplay but also in visual experiences.
