Afghanistan’s trade in 2025 remained stable thanks to Central Asia corridors

In 2025, Afghanistan’s foreign trade remained stable despite disruptions on the Pakistan route, thanks to alternative corridors established via Iran and Central Asia, Reuters reported.
After ties with Pakistan deteriorated, Afghan exporters and importers redirected cargo flows to other routes. Key hubs cited include Iran’s Chabahar port as well as overland transit corridors through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
According to Reuters, Afghanistan’s total foreign trade turnover in 2025 amounted to about $13.9 billion. Exports were $1.8 billion, while imports totaled $12.1 billion.
The largest markets for Afghan products remain India, Pakistan and Central Asian countries. Exports are dominated by dried fruits, coal, carpets, saffron and various agricultural goods.
Imports are led by fuel, equipment, food and industrial materials. These goods are mostly brought in from Iran, the UAE, China and neighboring countries.
