Pavel Durov: Telegram Is Not Linked to Russia’s Finances

Telegram founder Pavel Durov told the Financial Times that the report about some Telegram securities being blocked due to sanctions actually refers to an old 2021 issuance. He said those securities have been almost fully redeemed. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .
According to Durov, Russian investors did not participate at all in Telegram’s recent $1.7 billion placement. “The old papers issued in 2021 have largely been paid off and do not pose a problem now,” he wrote on his channel.
According to KOD.ru, Telegram transfers bond payments to an intermediary, which then distributes the funds among investors. If someone could not receive their money due to sanctions, this does not fall within the company’s responsibility.
It is also noted that the 2021 papers are not an equity stake in the business but a debt obligation. Their holders are entitled only to interest payments and access to financial statements.
