Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister proposes revising visa-free regime for Americans

Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov said the visa-free regime for Americans should be reconsidered amid the US requirement for a high deposit for Kyrgyz citizens. He shared the initiative on the social network X. This was reported by Kursiv.uz. reports .
According to Baysalov, the new US State Department rules contradict the principle of reciprocity (parity). He stressed that visa policy is a matter of mutual respect.
One X user voiced concern that after such a move Washington could restrict visa issuance for Kyrgyz citizens and suggested improving relations with the United States.
As a reminder, starting January 21, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan applying for a B1/B2 (business and tourist) visa must pay a deposit ranging from $5,000 to $15,000. The exact amount is determined by a consular officer during the interview. The deposit does not guarantee a visa: the funds are refunded if the visa is denied or after full compliance with US stay conditions is confirmed.
