The Strait of Hormuz has been closed again: tensions in the region have escalated

Iran has announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by the IRNA news agency.
According to a spokesperson of the “Khatam al-Anbiya” central command, due to the ongoing maritime pressure and blockade by the United States, the Strait of Hormuz has again been placed under a closure regime.
The official statement notes that the Islamic Republic of Iran had previously, in accordance with reached agreements, allowed the limited passage of oil and commercial vessels.
However, the command representative stated that the United States continues to break its commitments and is intensifying pressure and control over maritime routes. For this reason, the Iranian side was forced to restore the previous strict regime over the Strait of Hormuz.
“From now on, this strategic waterway will be under the full control of the Iranian armed forces,” the statement said.
He also added that as long as the United States does not restore full freedom of movement for all vessels entering and leaving Iran, the situation in the strait will remain under strict control.
On April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz had been opened for commercial vessels for a certain period. It was reported that this decision was made within the framework of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that despite Tehran’s announcement, Iran’s naval blockade remains in force.
