Xiaomi starts pre-orders for the updated SU7

China’s Xiaomi has opened pre-orders for the updated SU7 electric sedan. Reuters reports that the model will go on sale in April 2026. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .
The main focus of the update is safety, with strengthened systems designed to prevent collisions. In particular, the addition of lidar to detect road obstacles was noted.
The new SU7 is priced at 229,900 yuan (about $32.9 thousand). It is slightly more expensive than the previous version, but cheaper than the Tesla Model 3.
Company representatives emphasized that safety, rather than speed, was the priority in the update. Since SU7 entered the market in March 2024, more than 360,000 vehicles have been sold, but in recent months the Tesla Model 3 has pulled ahead in popularity in China.
Xiaomi plans to sell a total of 550,000 EVs in 2026, including the YU7 crossover. After two accidents involving the company’s EVs last year, criticism intensified; Xiaomi said it is addressing concerns and strengthening customer trust, including by livestreaming the vehicle assembly process.
