Internet cut in Iran: networks slowed down amid protests

Residents of Tehran and several cities in Iran's western provinces are reporting serious disruptions to home internet and mobile communication amid ongoing protests and unrest in the country. This was reported by IranWire media outlet in exile.

NetBlocks, an organization that monitors internet freedom, reported a connection disruption in the networks of Iran's TCI provider in Kermanshah. The organization also notes that it is observing internet disruptions and sharp declines in several other regions.

Another technically interesting signal appeared around the topic. Mikhail Klimarev, author of the Telegram channel "ZaTelekom," citing Cloudflare Radar data, wrote that the reported IPv6 indicators in Iran have dropped almost to zero. In his opinion, this situation is directly related to the lockdowns.

At the same time, Klimarev emphasized that there is currently no talk of a complete shutdown of the internet - a complete shutdown. According to him, there are "unusual" situations in traffic, but for now, we are talking about strict restrictions and very strict blocks.

As a reminder, protests in Iran have been ongoing since the end of December 2025. Initially, they began against the backdrop of an economic crisis, but later acquired a political character: in some speeches, demands were put forward, such as the overthrow of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the revision of the general policy of the Islamic Republic.

Clashes with security forces have also been reported. According to available information, as a result of the incidents, 34 protesters and four security personnel were killed, and more than two thousand protesters were arrested.

In short, the situation is escalating not only on the streets but also online. When the Internet "slow down," information also slows down, which quickly tires the nerves in any society.
