President Donald Trump said the United States could oversee Venezuela and manage its oil revenues for many years. He made these remarks in an interview following the military operation in January to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Trump emphasized that he is in constant contact with Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez. He said he has developed a plan to restore oil production and sales, which would bring funds to Venezuela. He also invited Colombia’s leftist leader to Washington, softening previous threats.
The U.S. Senate is considering a resolution to block further actions by Trump against Venezuela without congressional approval. Previous attempts were rejected several times, but in recent years, some Republicans have joined, keeping the issue under close watch.
Trump openly declared the U.S. intention to “run” Venezuela. According to information from Washington and Venezuela’s interim government, the U.S. plans to exercise control through economic and political influence rather than military occupation. In this context, Trump is expected to meet with leaders of major U.S. oil companies on Friday.
