Uzbekistan and Turkey aim to increase trade to $5 billion

Uzbekistan's ambassador to Turkey, Ilhom Haydarov, held talks with Turkey's Deputy Minister of Trade, Mustafa Tuzcu. During the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their intention to increase bilateral trade between the two countries to $5 billion. This was reported by the Dune news agency.

The current volume of trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey has reached $2.4 billion. During the discussions, it was noted that there are significant opportunities to expand trade. The export and import structures of the two countries are similar and demonstrate high competitiveness in international markets.

Mustafa Tuzcu emphasized the importance of making more active use of the preferential trade agreement signed between the two countries. According to him, if this mechanism is effectively implemented, it will be possible to achieve the targeted trade volumes.

Additionally, the parties focused on addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers faced by Uzbek exporters. In particular, they discussed possibilities to reduce additional import duties on products in the electrical equipment, textile, and cable sectors, as well as lifting import restrictions on certain fruit and vegetable products.
