Fatty foods “silence” the intestines: scientists warn

Fatty foods “silence” the intestines: scientists warn
A diet high in fast food and saturated fats can not only lead to weight gain, but also to the breakdown of the intestinal barrier. A recent study by Australian scientists published in the scientific journal Immunity has further substantiated these concerns.

A week of fatty food - hidden inflammation in the intestine

As part of the study, mice were kept on a high-fat diet for just 7 days. As a result of observation, their intestinal walls thickened, immune cells that cause inflammation began to accumulate, and, most dangerously, the production of a protective protein called IL-22 decreased significantly.

The IL-22 protein normally plays an important role in the repair of the intestinal wall and ensuring its “barrier” function. Its deficiency, scientists say, makes the intestine prone to chronic inflammation and other diseases.

“Invisible” pain — serious consequences

“The inflammation caused by fatty foods does not just start with pain. It develops slowly, insidiously, and later causes serious health problems,” the study authors say.

If such a diet continues, the immune system may respond late and poorly to pain signals. In this case, the body begins to perceive inflammation as a “natural” condition, which leads to persistent ailments.

Is there a solution? — Choosing fats is important

Scientists recommend giving up fast food and saturated fats and changing the source of fat in the diet. For example, products rich in unsaturated fats, such as nuts, avocados and fish, are much healthier for the intestines. These types of fats support the production of IL-22, reducing the risk of inflammation.

The risk of cancer is also increasing

According to a study by Spanish scientists published in April, fatty foods pose a risk not only to the intestines, but also to tumors in the body as a whole. Because they increase platelet activity and increase the amount of a protein called “fibronectin”. This creates a favorable environment for tumor metastasis - especially in the lungs.

From the Zamin.uz editorial office:
To prevent short-term pleasures from turning into long-term problems, each person should properly direct their diet. A tendency to a fatty diet can affect not only the appearance, but also internal organs and lead to very serious diseases. Have you thought about this before?
