A new hope has arisen for those suffering from back pain. Research conducted by Norwegian and Danish scientists has proven the positive effect of walking on back health.
Experts found that walking for at least 100 minutes a day reduces the risk of chronic back pain by approximately 25%. This was announced by one of the research leaders, Professor Ryan Haddadge. He emphasized that walking is an inexpensive, easy, and convenient health activity for the general public, which not only relieves back pain but also improves overall physical condition.
More than 11,000 people over the age of 20 participated in the study. In 2017-2019, weekly activity indicators were measured using special accelerometer devices. Later, in 2021-2023, their health was reassessed and checked for signs of back pain.
Participants were divided into four groups based on walking time:
- Those who walk less than 78 minutes;
- 78-100 minute walks;
- 101-124 minutes walking;
- Those who walk more than 125 minutes.
The results showed that as walking time increased, the likelihood of back pain decreased. At the same time, it turned out that walking at a moderate or fast pace is much more effective in preventing chronic pain compared to slow walking.
Today, more than 600 million people worldwide suffer from back pain. According to the World Health Organization, this figure may reach 843 million by 2050.
Scientists consider this result an important scientific basis that encourages people to take active action. Therefore, walking for less than an hour every day is not only beneficial for the body but also a natural and safe way to get rid of back pain.
