In Khiva, a woman who kissed a statue was fined

In the city of Khiva, Khorezm region, a woman was fined for kissing a statue. This act, showing disrespect for Uzbekistan's spiritual and cultural heritage, sparked heated discussions on social media.

It was clarified that M.G., born in 2000 in the Altinsay district of Surkhandarya region, visited Khiva on February 21. On that day, at 16:30, she arrived at the territory of the Ichon-Qala State Museum-Reserve and kissed a statue dedicated to the representatives of Khorezm's national musical art. She filmed this action and posted it on Instagram.

This action was considered an offense, and the Khiva city court imposed a fine of 2,060,000 UZS on M.G. under Part 1 of Article 64-1 of the Administrative Responsibility Code. According to this law, careless treatment of cultural heritage objects leads to a fine equal to five basic calculation units. If the offense is repeated within a year, administrative detention for 15 days or a larger fine may be imposed.

A crucial reminder for everyone — we must show respect for cultural heritage and approach its value properly.
