Poisonings in kindergartens: the guilty must be punished

Preliminary analyses of the mass poisoning of children in preschool educational institutions of Tashkent region revealed numerous shortcomings. It was emphasized that safety standards during meals were violated and control was insufficiently ensured.

The Children’s Ombudsman commented on the situation, stating that the guilty individuals must inevitably be held strictly accountable under the law. It was also noted that it is necessary to organize the work of outsourcing companies in kindergartens in an open and transparent manner, eliminate corruption risks in contracts, and strengthen constant monitoring and quality control of children’s nutrition.

According to the latest information, 694 children are currently being treated in hospitals of Tashkent region. Thirteen of them are in moderately serious condition. Cases of poisoning have been recorded in a total of seven districts. At present, a criminal case has been initiated, and work is underway to identify and punish those responsible.
