Cold and Polluted Air Problem in Tashkent

Cold and polluted air issue in Tashkent
Due to a cold anticyclone bringing the air layer closer to the ground, pollution is not dispersing, according to a report by a special commission. This situation may persist until December 5.

Currently, the commission is conducting inspections to identify sources of pollution. Regarding heating systems, nearly 1,450 facilities were inspected, 67 of which were shut down due to violations.

Necessary documentation was issued to some individuals, and technical conditions were provided to enterprises for connection to the gas network. In construction: 53 illegal constructions were identified, and 34 were closed.

Approximately 200 cases of air pollution were recorded. At some construction sites, water spray systems were installed to reduce dust.

In the transportation sector, freight vehicle drivers were inspected: over 800 drivers were held accountable for uncovered cargo transport, and more than 200 drivers faced penalties for high pollution levels from their vehicles. Additionally, dozens of streets and public areas were washed, canals were cleaned, and illegal sand and gravel mining activities were halted.

Order was restored in several areas. As a result of these measures, air quality has significantly improved.

From November 24-28, PM2.5 concentration decreased from 171 µg/m³ to 97 µg/m³. Despite this significant change, the issue has not been completely resolved.
