Sexual assault against 14-year-old girl reported in Fergana

In the Uchkuprik district of Fergana region on January 9, a group of individuals committed violence against a 14-year-old minor girl, according to reports circulating on social media.
According to Nilufar Giyasova, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs department for women and children, on January 10, 2026, the investigative department under the Uchkuprik District Police Department initiated a criminal case under Article 118, Part 3 (assault on honor and dignity) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the preliminary investigation, the suspects were detained in accordance with Article 221 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the court imposed pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.
At present, all necessary investigative actions are being carried out within the criminal case, and the investigation is conducted by the Fergana Regional Department of Internal Affairs.
The Children’s Ombudsman told Gazeta that disclosing details of this case to the public contradicts the interests of the child. In particular, public dissemination of personal information about the minor victim and details of the incident may negatively affect the child’s rights and mental health.
