On September 26, during the "World Nuclear Week" forum in Moscow, Azim Akhmadkhodjayev told Spot that the construction of a nuclear power plant will lead to a decrease in electricity prices in Uzbekistan.
"Prices will definitely fall," he said in response to the question. According to him, after the investment period, the costs of producing 1 kWh of energy will significantly decrease. With an increase in capacity, the efficiency of the system increases, and, based on the laws of economics, a decrease in prices is a natural process.
Akhmadkhodjayev assessed nuclear energy as one of the fields with a "great future." He emphasized that coal generation has lost its significance, and natural gas should be used more effectively in the production of high value-added products.
The day before, it was reported that Uzatom and the Russian corporation Rosatom had reached an agreement on the updated configuration of the nuclear power plant to be built in Uzbekistan. According to the new agreement, the project includes two large-capacity VVER-1000 (3+ generation) power units and two small RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each.
