In Uzbekistan, the food service sector in recent months has been distinguished by significant development and expansion. According to the State Committee on Statistics, during January–August of the current year, the turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to almost 133 trillion soums.
According to official information, as of September 1, 2025, there are 25,840 commercial public catering enterprises — that is, restaurants, cafes, and canteens — operating in the country. This figure indicates the consistent development of the sector along with the growth of the country’s population and the intensification of market competition.
It is noted that compared to the same period of 2024, turnover increased by 12.8 percent. This means that the food service sector continues to grow not only due to domestic demand but also because of changes in the lifestyle of the population.
According to officials, at present the main part of public catering enterprises is concentrated in the capital and large cities, where demand for their services is high. At the same time, it is noted that in the regions, the opening of new restaurants and cafes is also increasing.
Experts emphasize that growth in the food service sector is manifested not only in economic indicators but also in the quality of service. Each year the supply of new menus, various national and international dishes increases, and more attention is paid to creating convenience for customers.
At the same time, some experts believe that one of the main reasons for this growth is the increase in household incomes and the renewal of food culture. At present, many families choose restaurants and cafes for leisure and celebrations.
In conclusion, it can be said that the results of 8 months show that the food service sector occupies an important place in the country’s economy and generates large turnover in the domestic market. In the coming months, further growth of this indicator is expected.
