In Uzbekistan, food products that are approaching the end of their shelf life will now be sold at discounted prices. This procedure was established in a government resolution.
According to the new rules, special counters will be organized in large shopping centers and stores. Products nearing the end of their shelf life will be placed there, and their prices will be gradually reduced every 10 days. The goal is to provide the population with quality products at affordable prices and, most importantly, to prevent unnecessary waste.
In addition, measures will be taken to reduce food losses at every stage — from the field to the consumer. This process includes harvesting, sorting, loading, transporting, and placing products in refrigerators. Each stage will be strictly monitored.
The quality of food products, particularly agricultural products, will also be under constant control. Special training seminars will be organized for farms and household producers, teaching them how to increase productivity, conduct market analysis, and use chemicals efficiently.
According to the document, in January–February 2026, sanitary rules, standards, and hygiene requirements for raw materials, food production, transportation, storage, and sales will be improved.
Most notably, the years 2026–2030 will be declared the “Period of Essential Food Security” in Uzbekistan. During this period, special attention will be given to supplying the population with sufficient and quality food, preventing excessive waste, and promoting rational consumption. The “Rational Consumption” (Save food) program will be implemented.
Experts emphasize that this initiative will contribute not only to providing the population with affordable and high-quality products but also to strengthening the country’s food security.
