A new decree aimed at improving working conditions and providing social support for healthcare workers has been adopted in Uzbekistan, according to official sources.
Under the decree, starting from April 1, 2026, state medical institutions will switch to a five-day workweek. On holidays and weekends, continuous service will be ensured through on-duty shifts. The goal is to reduce excessive workload on doctors and increase labor efficiency.
In addition, healthcare workers will receive an annual bonus equal to the minimum wage on the occasion of Healthcare Workers’ Day. Competitions such as “Best Doctor” and “Best Polyclinic” will be held, with winners receiving cash prizes and opportunities for international training.
From January 1, 2026, children of medical and pharmaceutical workers with at least 15 years of experience will have up to 30 percent of their university tuition fees covered by the state. Furthermore, 500 doctors per year will receive financial assistance covering 25 percent of the down payment for home purchases through mortgage support.
The decree also introduces several additional benefits for healthcare workers, including one free annual access to high-tech medical services, free sanatorium vouchers, full reimbursement of scientific publication costs, and a 50 percent discount on state service fees.
The new decision aims to raise the prestige of the medical profession, retain qualified specialists, and attract the younger generation to the healthcare field.
