Uzbekistan’s poverty rate fell to 5.8% in 2025

In 2025, Uzbekistan achieved one of the most notable results in recent years in reducing poverty. According to the National Statistics Committee and the World Bank, the country’s poverty rate declined from 8.9% in 2024 to 5.8% in 2025.

It was noted that this change helped 302 thousand families move out of poverty. The largest positive shifts were recorded in Jizzakh region (from 11.8% to 5.8%), Khorezm region (from 11.9% to 6.7%), Syrdarya region (from 11.3% to 6.2%), and in Tashkent city (from 7.3% to 3.5%).

By region, the situation also improved in rural areas: poverty there decreased from 9.2% to 6.4%. In cities, the indicator fell from 8.6% to 5.2%.

Currently, about 2.2 million people live below the poverty line. The main sources of household income are wages (72.6%), pension payments (11.8%), and agricultural income (10.1%).

Income inequality also narrowed: the gap between the rich and the poor decreased from 6.3 times to 5.7 times. Incomes of the least well-off groups rose by 26%, while incomes of higher-income groups increased by 13%.
