New Threat in Thailand: Pink Ringworm Epidemic Spreading
A new skin disease raising concern — pink ringworm — has been identified in Thailand. The country's Department of Health announced that this viral illness could potentially reach epidemic levels.

The disease tends to spread quickly during the rainy season. Therefore, locals and tourists are advised to carefully monitor any changes to their skin.

According to officials, the illness usually starts with the appearance of a large, noticeable patch known as the "mother patch," often found on the back, arms, or abdomen. A few days later, smaller oval or round rashes appear on other parts of the body. These are typically light brown, salmon-colored, or pinkish-reddish in hue.

This condition is most frequently seen in children and young people. It is considered dangerous for pregnant women, as in severe cases it may lead to miscarriage.

In addition to skin symptoms, patients may experience general deterioration in health — headache, fever, muscle and joint pain, and in some cases, internal pain and difficulty swallowing.

Health specialists urge vigilance and recommend seeking medical help if the following symptoms appear:

- elevated body temperature;
- appearance of rash and spots;
- cough, runny nose, sore throat;
- muscle and joint pain;
- diarrhea, general weakness.

The official warning states that if such symptoms occur, especially after returning from a tourist trip, the situation should not be taken lightly.

Experts conclude that not only in Thailand, but during any travel, it is important to maintain personal hygiene, avoid factors that may damage the skin, and consult a dermatologist promptly at the first signs of illness.
