In one of Pakistan’s largest cities, Karachi, yet another tragic incident has caused serious concern and sorrow throughout the country and among the local population, xunhua.org reported. In the Lyari district, a five-story residential building suddenly collapsed on July 4, with the official death toll reaching 17 people.
State rescue services and police were immediately mobilized at the scene. Over 100 rescuers and service staff are still tirelessly working to search for and retrieve those trapped and the bodies of the deceased from the rubble. After news about the incident spread, this tragedy has become the focus of active discussion throughout the country.

Rescue teams are using special equipment to check for survivors under the debris. According to officials, so far, signs of life have been detected in about 10 people. However, unfortunately, the number of victims of the disaster is expected to increase further.

Eyewitnesses say that several hours before the collapse, there were strong tremors in the building, similar to an earthquake, but residents thought it was just an ordinary quake and did not take it seriously enough. Local authorities and special services had repeatedly warned and ordered residents to leave the building, but many did not leave their homes.

According to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the building had previously been recognized as "dangerous," and residents had been ordered to vacate it. Investigative authorities have begun to study the causes of the tragedy, and neighboring buildings are also being inspected for safety.
This incident once again highlights the low quality of construction in the city, insufficient control, and the need to increase attention to citizens’ safety. At present, the entire city population is expressing condolences to the victims and their families, and rescue operations are still ongoing. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
