For the first time in history, the construction of the world's largest aircraft began in Italy. According to information released by the Euro Puls portal, this aircraft is being developed specifically for the wind energy sector and will be called the Radiia WindRunner.
The main goal of the project is the transportation of giant blades produced for new generation wind turbines. According to the data, the length of these blades reaches 104 meters. This is about 30 meters longer than the blades used for conventional wind turbines.
Specialists say that the new turbines use wind energy much more efficiently. They allow for more electricity generation, requiring less cost than solar power plants or nuclear energy. But the main problem arose in delivering such large propellers to the destination.
The blades cannot be assembled structurally. Trucks cannot transport these massive structures due to road turns or narrow tunnels. Airplanes and helicopters are also not suitable for such a large-sized cargo. Airships, in turn, are very light and cannot lift heavy loads.
Therefore, the only practical solution currently found is the construction of a completely new huge aircraft. Its parameters are truly impressive: the height is equal to a six-story building (24 meters), and the length is 108 meters. The total length of the wings is planned to reach 80 meters.
Experts note that this project will not only solve the transportation problem in wind energy, but can also open a new era in the history of aviation.
