Uzbek Woman Climbs Island Peak for the First Time

Uzbek woman conquers Island Peak for the first time
Alyona Aitova became the first woman from Uzbekistan to conquer Island Peak (Imja Tse) in the Himalayas. She shared videos of her ascent on her Instagram page.

Aitova described climbing Island Peak as her most challenging yet unforgettable mountain adventure. This peak, located in the Khumbu region near the Everest massif, is named Island Peak due to its "island" silhouette amidst glaciers.

The mountain stands over 6,100 meters in elevation. It was first climbed in 1956 by Hans-Rudolf von Gunten.

Island Peak is often chosen as a training climb before attempting higher peaks in the Himalayas. Previously, Aitova also conquered Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, which stands at 5,800 meters.
