The tense geopolitical background surrounding Greenland was filled with another new episode. According to Bild, the island's Bundeswehr troops received an order from Berlin to immediately leave Greenland, and this decision was effectively carried out in a "quiet regime."
According to the publication, 15 soldiers and officers, led by Admiral Stefan Pauli, were heading to Nuuk Airport. It was noted that the planned events were canceled, no official statement was made, and all actions were carried out covertly.
Notably, the German contingent arrived in Greenland on Friday, and they are scheduled to stay on the island for a longer period, even planning to study the conditions for further steps (a reconnaissance mission). According to Bild, however, the return order arrived in a very short time, on Sunday morning.
Later, a more official confirmation of this information appeared in the German media: citing Welt, a representative of the operational command reported that 15 military personnel were returning to Copenhagen on a civilian aircraft.
Why such a hasty and unexplained departure? According to Bild, this decision may have been made against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's tariff threats against European countries. The fact is that international media outlets are reporting that Trump, through Truth Social, announced the introduction of 10% tariffs on certain European countries, which will remain in effect until Greenland is fully under US control.
Reports also note that Trump described the deployment of European troops to the island as a "dangerous game." In the current situation, the Greenland issue takes on a much broader meaning than "ordinary military exercises": the Arctic position, security architecture, and trade pressure are intertwined at one point.
In short, every step in Greenland now "speaks" more with decisions made in the background than with statements made in front of cameras. And the most alarming aspect of this episode is this: the fewer official comments, the faster the speculation increases.
