The United States aims to reassess its relations with Europe, restore its influence in the Western Hemisphere, and enhance its military power in the Indo-Pacific region. Reuters has reported this, citing the U.S. national security strategy.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has emphasized the need to revive the Monroe Doctrine. This doctrine is based on the principle that European countries should not interfere in the affairs of North and South American nations.
In return, Washington pledged not to meddle in Europe's internal politics. "This is a result of the Monroe Doctrine in the Trump era, and it stands as a reasonable and effective way to restore U.S. strength and priorities.
This aligns with U.S. security interests," the document states. According to Reuters, the updated strategy clearly reflects Trump's desire to reshape the post-World War II order established under U.S. leadership.
At the same time, Washington is concerned about China's growing influence in Latin American countries. It plans to bolster the capability of the U.S. and its allies to prevent a potential conflict with China over Taiwan.
Jason Marczak, a senior analyst on Latin America at the Atlantic Council, noted that a return to the previous order for Washington is now impossible. The updated national security strategy highlights a "civilizational loss" risk for Europe, stating that changes are necessary if they wish to remain allies of Washington.
Furthermore, the United States has expressed its support for preserving Western identity. In addition, the U.S. government has shown interest in resolving the situation in Ukraine and restoring "strategic stability" with Russia.
