Irish UFC star Conor McGregor made a very touching and harsh statement about Telegram founder Pavel Durov. According to him, at a time when governments around the world are tightening the "nails" of freedom, Durov should be respected as the main force behind Telegram.
McGregor called Durov a "true fighter" and emphasized that his path is not a simple business story, but a struggle for secrecy and freedom of speech. He recalled that the founder of Telegram was expelled from Russia for refusing to sell or provide user data, after which he built a large platform based on the principle of confidentiality.
According to the UFC star, today Durov openly criticizes a number of rules in the European Union and exposes "punitive" approaches to innovation. McGregor assessed this as a "war against secrecy" and emphasized Durov's main warning: the time to protect the free internet from the threat of mass surveillance and censorship is dwindling.
McGregor also mentioned increased pressure on Durov. He said that even after his arrest in France and his speeches at freedom-themed forums were restricted, Durov did not change his position. McGregor cited this as an example of perseverance, arguing that while the founder of Telegram took measures to remove harmful content, he did not "sell" his principles.
The most emotional part of the statement was MacGregor's personal attitude. He called Durov a "myth," described him as "my dear friend and loyal brother," and firmly stated that "I am 100% with you."
It should be recalled that Pavel Durov was expelled from the country in April 2014 after the Russian government demanded the submission of information about Ukrainian users and protesters, after refusing to comply with this demand. After this incident, Durov made Telegram's privacy policy the main pillar of his brand.
