Uzbek Citizens Rescued from Forced Labor in Myanmar

Uzbek citizens rescued from labor exploitation in Myanmar
The Uzbek and Kazakh consulates in Thailand assisted in repatriating citizens who were victims of human trafficking, reports “Dunyo.” In addition, Uzbek and Kazakh diplomats cooperated with Bishkek to help a Kyrgyz national return to their homeland.

According to the victims, they traveled to Thailand with hopes of high-paying jobs. However, upon arrival, they were illegally transported to Myanmar and deceitfully forced into labor at fraudulent call centers.

After being rescued, the victims were provided with temporary shelter and food. At the beginning of December, they were safely repatriated to their home countries.

The Uzbek Consulate has urged citizens to meticulously evaluate job offers abroad. Additionally, the consulate expressed readiness to assist Uzbeks facing labor issues in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos.

This is not the first instance of Central Asian citizens being rescued from forced labor in Myanmar. Previously, citizens of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan were also repatriated to their countries.
